Getting ready for your windshield repair, rock chip repair & crack repair appointments

Prepare for a Perfect Repair: Your Appointment Checklist

At Cracks N Chips, we take great pride in our work. Our goal is to perform a high-quality repair that is meant to last for the lifetime of your windshield repair. For the specialized resin to bond perfectly and create a permanent fix, the glass must be in the right condition when we arrive.

Following these simple steps is crucial for a successful outcome. If a repair is performed on auto glass with pre-existing moisture or extreme heat, the bond can fail over time. To ensure your repair is done right and is guaranteed to last, we ask that you please follow the instructions below.

Location & Lighting: A Key to Quality

To perform a precise, high-quality repair, our technicians require adequate natural light. Good visibility is absolutely essential for us to properly see the intricate details of the damage and ensure the resin fills every microscopic fissure within the glass.

For this reason, we are unable to perform repairs in dimly lit locations such as:

  • Multi-level parking structures or parking garages

  • Underground parking lots

  • Dark or poorly lit residential garages

Please ensure your vehicle will be parked outdoors in an open area during your appointment. If your only option is a garage, it must be very brightly lit. This allows us to deliver the highest standard of workmanship for a clear and permanent repair.

☀️ Preparing for Hot & Sunny Weather

To ensure the best results during warm months, please park your vehicle in a shaded area for at least two hours before your appointment.

  • Why is this important?

    • Prevents Spreading: A windshield baking in the sun is under extreme stress, which can cause a small rock chip to crack out while we work on it.

    • Ensures a Stronger Repair: Hot glass causes our repair resin to cure too quickly, preventing it from properly bonding with the glass. A cooler windshield allows us to perform a stronger, more effective repair.

    • Saves Time: When the glass is cool, we can begin your repair immediately, getting you back on the road faster.

❄️ Preparing for Cold & Wet Weather

The golden rule for cold and wet conditions is: Keep the damaged area completely DRY.

Moisture from rain, snow, frost, morning dew, or even windshield washer fluid will prevent the resin from adhering to the glass, making a permanent repair impossible.

  • How to Keep it Dry:

    • Immediately after noticing the damage, cover the chip or crack with a piece of clear packing tape. This creates a waterproof seal.

    • If the damage gets wet, it must be completely dry before we arrive. Park it in a garage or covered area for at least 4 hours. If the temperature is below 50°F, it may need 8 hours or more to fully dry.

    • We recommend booking appointments for later in the day during winter to allow morning frost or dew to evaporate.

Our $30 Trip Charge & Inspection Policy

We strive to keep our rates affordable and our pricing straightforward. A trip charge is only applied when our technician travels to a scheduled appointment but is unable to perform a repair due to circumstances outside of our control. This fee covers our technician's dedicated time, travel, and professional assessment.

A $30 trip charge will be applied in the following situations:

  • Appointment No-Show: Our technician arrives at the scheduled time and location, but the customer is not present and cannot be reached.

  • Moisture in the Damage: The chip or crack is wet due to rain, snow, frost, a car wash, or washer fluid, making a successful repair impossible at that time.

  • Damage is Beyond Repair: Upon professional inspection, the technician determines the damage is too severe, too large, or located in an area that makes a safe, effective repair impossible, requiring a full windshield replacement instead.

  • Previous Repair Attempt: The damage has already been repaired, or a DIY repair kit has been used. This foreign substance prevents our professional resin from bonding correctly to the glass.

  • No Repairable Damage: The mark on the glass is identified as a surface-level nick, pit, or flaw with no structural damage that can be filled with resin.

We never want to charge this fee. By following the preparation steps and assessing your damage honestly, you help us provide a fast, efficient, and permanent repair at the best possible price.
